Retail booth to the rear of chippy given green light

Plans for a retail booth backing onto the car park in Seahouses have been given the go-ahead, despite parish-council concerns.

The scheme, for the rear yard of 22 Main Street – Lewis’s Fish Restaurant, was unanimously approved by members of Northumberland County Council’s planning committee on Tuesday.

The meeting heard that the applicant wants to use the booth, which would have a new doorway and sliding window in the wall, to sell tickets for events, not food.

The county council’s strategic estates team had raised an objection because the car park is leased by the authority from the Lord Crewe Trustees and the covenant prevents any new accesses onto the car park.

However, councillors were told that this was a civil issue and was not a planning consideration.
