Resurfacing work to start on heavily-criticised road in Northumberland town

The repairs will take place along the A1068 in Amble, outside of Persimmon Homes' Coquet Grange housing development, where a new roundabout has also been constructed.

Last week, the Gazette reported how drivers have criticised the condition of that part of the road, which currently has a temporary surface. One driver even said that his vehicle had been damaged due to the poor state of the stretch - which is uneven, has no markings and has a ramp at each end where the temporary surface meets the existing road.

The resurfacing works will last for up to a week and drivers are being urged to find an alternative route.

Last week, a Northumberland County Council spokesman said that the resurfacing of that section of the road had been delayed due to bad weather, but the contractor had since been instructed to make any necessary repairs to the road surface as soon as possible.
