The sixth Northumberland Residents’ Festival, which was staged last weekend and saw top attractions offer free or discounted entry to people living in the county, has been hailed as a success.
The event, organised by the county council in partnership with participating venues, celebrated the area as being a great place to live.
Coun Val Tyler said: “We are thrilled to bits with the response from residents to the weekend and the feedback has been very positive.”
English Heritage reported an increase in visitors to its properties across the weekend, including a 74 per cent increase in visitors at Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens, compared to the previous weekend.
First reports on visitor numbers at participating attractions show that 500 residents used the discount vouchers at Alnwick Garden.
Other attractions taking part included Etal Castle, Lindisfarne Priory and Bamburgh Castle.
