RESEARCH: Plea for details on quilt makers

I am a historian currently investigating various textiles made during the First World War.

I have come across mention in a book on the history of quilt making that refers to some 100 quilts being made in Amble to be sold to raise funds for the war memorial.

A search in the Morpeth Herald of the time has turned up a report on a fund-raising bazaar held in March 1920, where ‘many beautiful quilts’ were sold but I can find no further mention of them nor any information about the women who made them.

Although I have also found reference to a quilt making club in Amble at the time, again, I have not been able to find any further details.

I wondered if any readers might have any family knowledge or memory of these quilts. Or even, possibly, still own one of them.

Any information about the quilts or quilt makers in Amble in the years 1912 to 1925 would be gratefully received.

I can be contacted by email on [email protected].

Many thanks in advance for any help anyone is able to give me with this research.
