Remote learning

A conversational Spanish class is running jointly in Berwick and Wooler on Thursday afternoons.

The tutor is in Berwick as classes take place in both locations – with audio and visual links between all parties.

“We put the equipment in a few months ago and this is the first time we’ve used it for groups,” said Tom Johnston, director of the Glendale Gateway Trust, which runs the Cheviot Centre.

“It’s had its teething problems, but that’s not surprising given that this was a very ambitious start.

“Trying to ensure that everyone can see and hear everyone else is not easy, but both sides are working very hard to make it work well.

“And I’m grateful for the patience all those involved at both ends have shown.

“We believe this remote technology will have many different applications in the years to come, which will have a major impact locally.”
