Remember the fifth of November

Alnwick and District Round Table is behind the spectacle at the town’s rugby club on Saturday.

In the build-up to the event, the group is running a competition on its Facebook page – www.facebook.com/alnwickfireworks – to find a youngster of primary-school age to press the big red button to start the display.

People need to go onto the Facebook page and type the child’s name and age. The deadline is 6pm tomorrow and a winner will then be chosen at random. Not only will the lucky youngster press the button, they will also get free entry to the event, along with their parents and siblings.

Only one entry per child and they will need to be available to attend the rugby club on Saturday at 6.30pm with a parent.

The display is in aid of local good causes and to ensure future events can take place

Gates open at 6.30pm, with the fireworks starting 7.30pm. Admission is £5 adults, £3 children, U4s free. The only way to access the site is via the main entrance to the ground.

If possible, people should come on foot if they live close by, but the best car parks to use are at Homebase and Willowburn Sports and Leisure Centre.

The Shepherds Rest in Alnwick is holding a free family fun night and fireworks display tomorrow.

There’ll be children’s rides, raffles, tombola, a disco, karaoke and refreshments from 5pm, with the fireworks display at 7.30pm.

In Rothbury, Coquetdale Round Table is staging its fireworks event at Cragside on Sunday. Entry is at 5pm, with the display at 6pm. Entry is £5 per adult up to a maximum of £10 per car, children go free.

Proceeds are for local charities and there will be entertainment from the Rothbury Highland Pipe Band, as well as refreshments.

A bonfire and fireworks event is taking place at Vyner Park, Swarland, tomorrow. For more information, see details on posters around the parish.

Just down the road, there is also a display at Percy Wood Country Park & Golf Club on the driving range at 6pm. No tickets are required for the fireworks.

Clennell Hall, Alwinton, will be putting on a display on Saturday. The festivities begin at 5pm, with refreshments, food, live music and hopefully a laser show, before the fireworks at 7pm. Entry is free, but donations to the Blood Bikes charity.

Elsdon’s fireworks display is also on Saturday, from 6pm.

Alnmouth’s Bonfire Night is on Saturday from 6pm. There will be fireworks, soup and hotdogs and proceeds go to the Hindmarsh Hall Refurbishment Fund.

A bonfire and fireworks display takes place in Hauxley on Saturday, November 12, with the bonfire being lit at 6.30pm. Refreshments will be on sale and there will be a charitable collection for the Great North Air Ambulance.

In Berwick, the main display is at Cornhill Road in Tweedmouth tomorrow, from 6.30pm.

The annual bonfire and fireworks display at Morpeth Rugby Club is taking place on Sunday. Gates open at 5pm and the bonfire will be lit at 6pm. Admission is £5 for adults and £3 for under 12s.

A charity fireworks event is being held at Higham Lakes Trout Fishery in Higham Dykes, near Ponteland, on Saturday. Gates open at 4pm, the bonfire will be lit at 5.15pm, the fire performer’s show starts at at 5.45pm and fireworks will begin at 6pm.

It is £5 entry for adults and £2.50 for children (four to 16 years), children under four go free. All proceeds will go to Daft as a Brush Cancer Patient Care.

Kirkley Hall is also hosting a display on Saturday. Gates open at 3pm, the bonfire will be lit at 6pm and fireworks will start at 6.30pm. Admission is £3 per person.
