Plans to relocate Hadston Post Office, with Sunday opening, have been given the stamp of approval.
A new local service will be based at Hadston News, Units 8 & 9, 16, The Precinct, and will launch at 1pm on Tuesday.
The service will be provided at a serving point in the store, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the retail till.
Services will be available seven days a week, during the store’s opening hours, from 7am to 7.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and 7am to 12.30pm, on Sunday.
The change will see operational hours increase by 34-and-a-half hours a week.
A spokeswoman said: “The new Hadston Post Office will be delighted to welcome customers to the new branch.
“Residents and small business customers will be able to access the wide range of services.
“These include special delivery, local collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals, withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, paying bills, pre-ordering travel money, applying for travel insurance and topping-up mobile phones.
“We are confident that this vibrant, new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will meet customer needs.”
Robust security procedures will be in place and anyone handling transactions will be fully trained.
The current Hadston Post Office, at Unit 2, The Precinct, will close at 5.30pm on Monday.
During this short period of closure before the new branch is operational, services may be accessed from any convenient Post Office branch, including the one in Queen Street, Amble.
