The course will provide those that wish to go into commercial fishing with the necessary mandatory certificates that are required by law, namely sea survival, first aid, firefighting and basic health and safety.

Dennis Osborne, training manager for the Anglo-Scottish Seafish & Seafood Training Association, said: “This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who wishes to become a crew member aboard a commercial fishing vessel or start your own business and buy a fishing vessel, as three previous students who completed the course have done.

“This would normally cost the candidate £540, but under this scheme it is free.”

There are 10 places on the course, which starts on July 11. For more information, contact Dennis by emailing assta.amble@gmail.com or calling 01665 713823/07702 042551.
