Record results for litter-pickers
A record turn-out of children at this year's Acklington Litter Pick enabled villagers to extend their search to the surrounding roads, and grab a record haul of 112KG of rubbish. Thirty-eight villagers took part, and 10 were children.
An estimated 90 per cent of the rubbish was thrown from passing vehicles, with 24 sacks of general refuse and 18 of recyclable cans and bottles.
Unusual items included a fitness machine, barbecue and carpet.
