Northumberland’s top firefighter has had a flying visit from the new boss of RAF Boulmer.

Alex Bennett, Chief Fire Officer with Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service (NFRS), met with the new Station Commander from RAF Boulmer, Group Captain Mark Coleman.

Grp Capt Coleman was given a tour of NFRS Headquarters at West Hartford before the pair discussed partnership arrangements and the work both organisations do in helping protect and rescue people in the county.

Alex Bennett said: “We have a long history of close working with staff from RAF Boulmer and it was great to be able to show Group Captain Coleman around and demonstrate some of the state-of-the-art facilities and equipment we have.”

Grp Capt Coleman said: “RAF Boulmer has an excellent working relationship with a number of departments within Northumberland County Council. My visit to the Fire Service HQ reaffirmed the strong ties between the Armed Forces and the emergency services and I look forward to hosting the Chief Fire Officer at RAF Boulmer in the near future.”

Dave Ledger, deputy leader of Northumberland County Council, with responsibility for NFRS, added: “The RAF has a long and proud tradition in the county and it’s great to have their support and be able to share skills and resources.”
