The Academy has trained around 1,000 students since opening in October 2016. Of the 400 current students, six are from the UK.

“The Apple Developer Academy is a truly once in a lifetime experience to explore fresh ideas whilst collaborating with innovative minds from all over the world," said Ash Thomas, 26, a current UK student.

"It is the ideal place to dive deep into design thinking and to learn in a way that is like no other. I’d recommend the academy to anyone who wishes to learn how to develop mobile apps, or to anyone wanting to follow a career in technology or design.”

The app industry generated more than $86bn (£63bn) in 2017 from 175bn global downloads, according to industry tracker App Annie.

Apple is due to hold its annual developers conference WWDC on 4 June in San Jose, attended by 42 current Academy students.

While it has traditionally served as the platform for announcing the company’s Mac and later iPhone software updates, WWDC has since expanded to include new features for iPad, Apple Watch and Apple TV and has also played host to numerous product announcements.

The company is rumoured to be launching a new overhauled iPad Pro and a second version of the iPhone SE.
