Nature lovers were in for a surprise yesterday, when a glossy ibis – a rare visitor to the UK – was spotted at Druridge Pools, which lies within two miles of Cresswell village.

The picture was snapped by Northumberland Wildlife Trust (NWT) blogger, James Common.

A NWT spokeswoman said: “The glossy ibis is classed as a rare summer migrant and it’s definitely off track. Looks like its birdy sat-nav has gone dodgy.”
