The Alnwick Gin team are toasting a job well done, after the brand won a silver medal at an industry event.
The drink – a product of the Northumberland Spirit Company (NSC) – took the award at the first London Spirits Competition.
Neil Osborne, director of NSC, said: “I am delighted that Alnwick Gin performed so highly at the recent London Spirits Competition.
“Winning an award is particularly important to us because it shows that we are making the types of spirits that spirit drinkers actually want to buy and enjoy.”
The judging panel for the London Spirits Competition consisted of spirits industry experts with commercial buying responsibility.
Spirits were judged on the basis of three primary criteria – quality, value and packaging – and then scored on a 100-point scale.
Spirits that scored 90+ points were awarded gold medals, while spirits that scored 76 to 89 points were awarded silver medals.
Sid Patel, CEO of event organiser, Beverage Trade Network, said: “At all the other major competitions, spirits are judged solely on the quality of what’s in the bottle. We wanted to take a different approach, by asking our judges to look at spirits the way spirit drinkers do, adding appearance and value for money into the mix.”
Founded in 2016, Alnwick Gin is a small batch hand-crafted gin that is made in the heart of rural Northumberland.
Renowned for its smoothness and unique taste, it consists of 11 herbs and botanicals and the drinker will savour rosemary, rosehip, lavender and juniper.
