Ahead of Armed Forces Day this weekend, the RAF Association is calling on the people of the Boulmer community to sign up as members of the charity.

As the nation prepares to honour the service of so many current and ex-Service men and women, the Association is urging the public to honour their own local heroes.

The Association relies on the generosity of members of the public to support its work, delivering help to the 1.5million-strong RAF family.

From sourcing financial aid to tackling loneliness and social isolation, the welfare of its members and beneficiaries lies at the heart of the Association’s objectives. In 2015 alone, the Association made more than 102,000 welfare calls and visits to people within the RAF family.

Armed Forces Day, on Saturday, is an opportunity for communities to show they value the sacrifices that brave Service personnel have made to protect their freedoms. Whether that sacrifice was made during the Second World War, the Falklands or more recent conflicts in the Middle East, the Association is asking Boulmer to not only acknowledge this great service but also to help support the RAF – and the Armed Forces - every other day of the year.

David Prowse, director, membership and operations, said: “Celebrations like Armed Forces Day are really important initiatives that make current and ex-Service personnel feel welcomed by their communities. We believe every generation owes a debt of gratitude to the RAF and their families and events like this remind the British public of the great sacrifices these heroes have made.

“The RAF Association’s primary concern is ensuring that every member of the RAF family feels looked after. With thousands of members and volunteers across the UK and further afield, we are building the vital network needed for a personal, one-to-one approach. With this goal in mind, we are asking members of Boulmer to sign up and help us to provide this security and support.

“Our members sit at the heart of the Association and many are also our beneficiaries. This recruitment drive is not only about boosting membership numbers but about helping real people who need our services.”
