A six-week public consultation has started over proposals to relocate a village post office to create a modern, open-plan branch with extended opening hours.
The Post Office has unveiled plans to move Longhoughton’s current facility from its premises at 51 North End to the Spar building – 295 metres along the road.
The scheme is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network, extending services and making it easier for customers to do business.
Should the move go ahead, the branch would be open from 7.30am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday – 48 hours more than currently offered.
Sheila McCann, Post Office regional network manager for northern England, said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to residents in Longhoughton and we are confident that this new, modern branch will meet the needs of the community and secure services for the future.
“The proposed changes to the branch are part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment marks a commitment to no more branch-closure programmes.”
The Longhoughton consultation closes on Friday, December 13.
