Ascent Homes - the house building arm of Arch Group - is progressing design proposals for the Allerburn House site, on Denwick Lane. The scheme seeks to enhance the site by refurbishing and converting the currently vacant Allerburn House into apartments, restoring the vacant lodge building for residential use, and constructing 10 new executive detached properties.

Ascent Homes, which would construct the properties, intends to submit a detailed planning application soon and will be enhancing security on the site immediately. Subject to consultation and planning, it is anticipated that work will commence early next spring.

The plans will go on show on Tuesday, in the town's Northumberland Hall, from 3pm to 7pm. The public consultation event will provide an opportunity to view the proposed new scheme, comment on the plans and meet the team.

Arch chairman, Coun Dave Ledger, said: “This site is in a fantastic central location close to amenities, schools and good transport links. Our aim is to offer a high-quality range of executive housing and apartments, adding a new dimension to the housing market.

"I am sure the properties, once developed, will be much sought after. I look forward to seeing what local people make of the plans – constructive feedback is always welcome.”
