Work is progressing on bringing the level of the old trackbed up to the level of the Aln Valley Railway’s Lionheart site.

A total of some 7,000 cubic metres of materials has to be dumped to bring the ramp from the old trackbed up to the correct level.

Some preliminary work was done earlier in the year by Redpaths of Wooler at the east end of the site close to the junction with Green Lane. However, by far the greatest amount of work (tipping and levelling at the west end) is being done KW Purvis, of Alnwick.

Once the new embankment is stabilised, hopefully by the new year, it will be possible for it to be topped and ballasting and track-laying can then commence. It is hoped that trains will run over the new track during next summer.
