Angels for Europe will be singing never-before-heard versions of Ode to Joy in Alnwick tomorrow to celebrate that the UK is still a member of the EU.
Spokeswoman for the Angels, Bridget Gubbins, said: “We are singing to cheer ourselves up as Theresa May issues Article 50. We have a new operetta and will sing in Basque, German, Spanish, French and more. But we are not all good linguists, especially in Basque, so there may be some fiascos.
“Nevertheless, thankfully, one of the Angels is a singer, so the rallying song will be in English.”
The event, in colourful costume with flags and banners, is set to take place at noon tomorrow at the market cross in Alnwick Market Place.
The Prime Minister is to trigger Article 50 tomorrow, which starts the two-year countdown to Brexit and marks the start of the period of negotiations on the terms of Britain’s withdrawal from the European Union.
