The Prince of Wales’ visit to north Northumberland is underway following his first engagement in Warkworth.
Prince Charles was in the village for around an hour earlier this afternoon, spending most of his time meeting residents, staff and volunteers at Abbeyfield House.
He is patron of Abbeyfield, a charity which provides support and sheltered housing for older people.
Chief executive Paul Allen said: “We are absolutely delighted, of course, and it’s a wonderful thing to happen at such a time of national celebration with the Jubilee and the Olympics.
“There’s a terrific atmosphere here, with residents, families of residents, families of staff and children around.”
Prince Charles also met three nominees from the WRVS-run Diamond Champions scheme, before walking through the village meeting residents who had gathered to greet him.
He finished his trip at chocalatier Cabosse, whose owner Louise Frederique described him as ‘definitely our most famous customer’.
