A north Northumberland Post Office could relocate to create a modern open-plan, local-style branch with extended opening hours and access to services seven days a week.

The Post Office is proposing to move the Seahouses facility to Corklee News, 26 Main Street, just 200 metres from its current site at 10 King Street.

The Post Office is now inviting customers and interested parties to give their comments during an eight-week public consultation.Should the move go ahead, the branch would open from 7am to 7.30pm Monday to Saturday and 7am to 5pm on Sunday – 44 hours more than are currently offered.

The proposed move is part of a major modernisation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers through longer opening hours and open-plan environments.

Post Office regional network manager for Northern England, Suzanne Richardson, said: “We understand how important Post Office services are to residents in Seahouses and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future. The proposed changes to the branch are part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, marks a commitment to no more branch-closure programmes.”

The consultation will close on January 27, 2014. Submissions can be made by Freepost Your Comments to Post Office Ltd, via email to comments@postof, via the Customer Helpline on 08457 22 33 44, Textphone 08457 22 33 55 or online at with the code 215328.
