A RECORD sum has been raised for the British Legion Poppy Appeal by a north Northumberland community.
Hundreds of people turned out to pay their respects to the fallen in Rothbury on Remembrance Sunday.
And the overwhelming turnout was reflected in the collection figures when organisers from Rothbury and Coquetdale branch of the British Legion revealed that they had raised £3,817 this year.
The Remembrance service was a huge success, with new vicar, Rev Michael Boag leading it, and a parade to the war memorial led by Rothbury Highland Pipe Band.
Alan Fendley, parish councillor and Poppy Appeal organiser for the Rothbury and Coquetdale branch, said: “This is an all-time record and it is due to the efforts of a devoted team of collectors, co-operation from local businesses and the generosity of the public.
“I would like to thank all those concerned.”
