Pop sensation Jess Glynne to play Alnwick as summer concert returns

One of the UK's biggest selling female singers is performing in Alnwick next summer.

Triple Brit Award nominee Jess Glynne will be on stage in the Pastures at Alnwick Castle on Saturday, August 12.

The pop sensation is one of only two British female solo artists to have five consecutive UK number one singles. Her number-one charting debut album, I Cry When I Laugh, has turned double platinum in the UK, making it the highest selling debut album of the past year.

She has a sold-out UK arena tour under her belt this year and was nominated for British Breakthrough Act, British Female Solo Artist and British Single for the smash hit Hold My Hand at this year’s prestigious Brit Awards.

Jess said: “It’s going to be great fun playing at Alnwick Castle on August 12. I love outdoor shows and can’t wait to return to the North East to share a summer’s evening with my fans.”

The castle has been hosting spectacular outdoor concerts since 2006, kicking off with Jools Holland.

The series has seen the likes of Jessie J, Status Quo, Simple Minds, Midge Ure and Alison Moyet appearing on stage.

But it came to an abrupt end last year when the Tom Jones concert suffered a generator failure and fans were left to find their way back to their cars in the dark.

Now the castle has teamed up with innovative music promoter Music Plus Sport to revive the popular concert.

Music Plus Sport operates a number of live music brands including the hugely successful The Jockey Club Live venture, Donington Live and summer concerts at rugby and cricket ground across the UK.

A castle spokesman said: “‘We are delighted to be teaming up with Music Plus Sport to bring such a prestigious artist as Jess Glynne to perform at Alnwick against the iconic backdrop of Alnwick Castle.

“This will be our biggest concert to date, and as joint organisers, we will be working proactively with Music Plus Sport to deliver a high quality and affordable evening suitable for all the family.”

Anthony Norris, Music Plus Sport event director, said the promoter was aware of the problems of 2015 and was detemined to make next summer’s concert one to remember for all the right reasons.

He said: “It is great to be in partnership with Alnwick Castle, one of the most historic venues in the country. We’re able to bring our experience to bear on this event in August to ensure families and music fans in the North East have an amazing concert in a fantastic setting.

“We are fully aware of what has gone before us and are fully confident that we will deliver an amazing show and one that is memorable for all the right reasons.”
