The council offers a range of residential services for children and young people who cannot live at home, either for long or short periods and has four residential homes offering full time care and support across the county.

With challenges including social distancing to consider and educating the young people about the importance of the lockdown to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the residential team have been creative in ways to keep the young people active and entertained - including activity sessions with sports development workers from Active Northumberland.

Coun Wayne Daley, deputy leader and cabinet member for children’s services, said: “It is a top priority for us to keep children and young people in our county safe and our residential care homes play a key role in this.“We are hugely grateful for all their hard work. They make a real difference to the lives of young people by offering them a stable environment, while encouraging them to make positive choices to reach their potential.”

Cath McEvoy-Carr, executive director of adults and children’s services, added: “This is a worrying time for all of us. It is really important that we ensure the young people in our care are safe and well looked after.“The amazing and committed teams we have in our residential homes provide a stable and supportive environment for our young people. I am so proud of each and every one of them - they do an amazing job.”
