“Working as one team will allow a more integrated approach to tourism, to ensure the county is able to deliver first class support for businesses, and help put the county firmly on the map as a premier visitor destination.

“This is just the beginning of some very exciting initiatives for tourism in the county, and we are looking forward to working together to support local residents and businesses to enjoy Northumberland at its very best.”

David Hall, chairman of Northumberland Tourism added: “Northumberland Tourism and the county council have achieved great success with tourism in the county over the years, and working together will really amplify our offer, and ensure Northumberland is the destination of choice for visitors.”

Working together as Visit Northumberland, the teams have been supporting the county’s newly created tourism and hospitality hub which has been helping many businesses during the recent weeks with their opening arrangements as lockdown has been eased.

Peter Jackson, leader of the council, said: “Tourism is a key economic driver for Northumberland, and we have pledged to do all we can to ensure that it comes back from this stronger than ever.

“It has been a very difficult time for the sector, and we have a unique opportunity to build on our previous success, to proactively lead and kick-start the tourism industry and support a thriving visitor economy.

Visit Northumberland will be hosting a business engagement event at the end of July to launch a package of support available to businesses, including a new brand and digital platform for Visit Northumberland, and a major marketing campaign to promote the county. Details will be released in the coming days.
