The 21 Northumberland roads the council received the most complaints about last year

Data released to the Gazette under Freedom of Information laws revealed the roads with the most complaints made about their condition between January and December 2019. The road at the top of the list had 71 reports made to the local authority about it in 12 months.

A Northumberland County Council spokesman said: "The data the council provided was the number of defect reports we received. Once we get a report, one of our Highway Inspectors will visit the site to determine whether the defect is actionable and meets the criteria for repair. These roads vary significantly in length so the FOI data can't be used as a guide to the condition of that section of road. In some cases we may also get multiple reports for the same defect. As well as responding to reports, the council pro-actively does inspections and repairs of all our roads on a planned basis. We also carry out annual condition monitoring across the whole of the highway network which helps form our annual Local Transport Plan maintenance programmes."
