A dozen loos have been placed in the main Seafield car park in Seahouses, with more in Bamburgh.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, member for Bamburgh ward on Northumberland County Council, said: “Seahouses and the rest of the Northumberland coast has seen a huge and unprecedented influx of visitors since the lifting of lockdown.

"At the same time the safety measures for the public conveniences have meant they can’t be used at full capacity. All this led to large queues forming outside the toilets.”

He added: “We are 100% committed to public safety and hygiene. To avoid the queues and to ensure there is sufficient toilet provision, portable loos have been installed in Bamburgh and Seahouses. The portable loos are being cleaned on a regular basis.”

However, the move has also led to concerns about the removal of parking spaces.
