The £60,000 repair of Cragmill road and £50,000 microsurfacing of Belford High Street are included in Northumberland County Council’s Local Transport Plan for 2021/22.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, local county councillor, told a meeting of Belford Parish Council that the High Street allocation includes raising the ironmongering on the road.

Cllr Thomas Keys asked for improved street-lighting at the village’s junctions with the A1. It was agreed to write to Highways England.

"I think there should be lights there but it’s not a council road,” said Cllr Renner-Thompson.

A speed deterrent sign planned for West Street was ordered on January 19 and will be installed as soon as possible. It is being funded through Cllr Renner-Thompson’s small schemes budget.

The parish council precept is to be kept at £10,500, including an allocation of £1,000 for play park repairs.

It has only spent £6,500 in the current financial year.

"Everyone’s individual tax will go down because more houses have been built in the village,” explained Cllr Renner-Thompson.

Reported repairs needed to the village’s public toilets are to be investigated.
