Proposed electric vehicle charging station in Alnwick aims to improve their long-distance viability

Six high-powered charging points along with associated equipment are planned on the Cawledge Business Park.
The application has been submitted by Ionity GmbH – a joint venture between Audi, BMW, Daimler, Ford, Porsche and Volkswagen.

Hide AdIt is planning to create a 40-strong network of charging points on major routes around the UK and 400 across Europe.


The proposed development site is close to the Hog’s Head Inn and service station on Hawfinch Drive.
The nearest electric charging points are at Lionheart Enterprise Park and Willowburn Retail Park but consultants for the applicant say these do not offer the speed of charging of their proposal.
They add: ‘The proposals seek to provide an environmentally sustainable and innovative solution to the long-distance viability of electric vehicles, further encouraging their utilisation and the environmental benefits in reduced carbon emissions, improved air quality and wider climate impacts this would bring.’
