Northumberland scraps Remembrance commemorations in light of pandemic
In the latest disruption to normal life during the Covid-19 pandemic, the authority has set out its position in relation to Remembrance services in light of the ongoing restrictions in place.
It explains that its own service will be replaced with an online version on Wednesday, November 11, while organisers of other events are advised to check all of the restrictions and that the council will not be closing roads or allowing use of its land.

‘We understand that this news will be disappointing to both those who are part of the event each year and visitors who come to pay their respects, but the safety and welfare of our residents and visitors has to be our priority during this crucial time.
‘To commemorate Remembrance Day, we will be hosting an online service on Wednesday, November 11, that the residents of Northumberland can view and pay their respects at 11am with the two-minute silence. Further details will be released soon.
‘If you are an individual or group that has previously planned and delivered local events across the county on Remembrance Sunday or Armistice Day, we strongly advise that the national and local government restrictions are reviewed carefully to ensure that any plans you are considering adhere to these guidelines.
