New appointments made to cabinet at Northumberland County Council following resignations

The appointments are: Cllr Glen Sanderson - deputy leader along with his existing portfolio (Environment and Local Services); Cllr Jeff Watson - Adult Health and Wellbeing; and Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson - Children and Young People.

The appointments follow the resignations of Cllr Wayne Daley, formerly deputy leader and cabinet member for children’s services, and Cllr Veronica Jones, cabinet member for adult wellbeing and health.

It follows the chief executive Daljit Lally being placed on ‘a period of extended leave’, with one of her last actions being to level serious allegations at the council leader, Peter Jackson.

Business chairman, Cllr Richard Dodd said: “These members bring a wealth of skills and experience to these hugely important portfolio areas.

“The welfare of all our residents has never been more critical and we look forward to our councillors driving forward these key areas of work.”
