How a Northumberland village is hoping to deter speeding drivers

Parish councillors have decided that the speed warning sign on West Street should thank drivers who pass under the speed limit, as opposed to the slow down warning on North Bank.

Cllr Guy Renner-Thompson, local ward member on Northumberland County Council, will fund the £3,500 cost from his small schemes fund.

It was reported by Cllr Kerry Noble that the double yellow lines at the south end of the High Street have now been installed.

No objections have been submitted by the parish council to the proposed removal of public payphones from the High Street and Middleton Hall.

A new rolling log is to be purchased for the play park.

Quotes are to be obtained for cutting back the branch of a cherry tree and willows in the Croftfield play area.

A volunteer has been granted £50 to purchase seeds to plant in the Jubilee woodland in September.

Cllr Thomas Keys raised concerns about the overgrown state of the footpath from Detchant to Middleton. It has been reported to Northumberland County Council.

An overgrown hedge on Station Road has also been reported by Cllr Renner-Thompson.

The next meeting is on September 24 at 7pm, provisionally at Bell View.
