Glendale community taskforce receives praise - and ice creams - plus do you want to join Wooler Parish Council

A community taskforce has received thanks – and even ice creams from Doddington Dairy - for its efforts during the coronavirus pandemic.

The ice creams were delivered to residents of the Old Vicarage residential home in Wooler, along with colouring books and pens purchased by the parish council which helped coordinate the project.

Parish councillors were told that a letter of thanks had been received from Roddam WI for its work. A kind donation had also been received from a member of the public, while a pallet of toilet rolls had been offered and accepted.

Lynda Cairns had raised money by selling homemade masks and asked the council to nominate some recipients of vouchers.

The council will retain information for telephone contact support in case there is a second wave of coronavirus.

Medication deliveries are currently continuing but will be reviewed at the August meeting.

Councillors were informed that Northumberland County Council has refused a request for the parish council to use the old first school site as a community building. The land has been designated for housing.

The parish council is to ask for a follow up meeting because it feels it is important to finalise the extension to the cemetery land prior to any development.

Further environmental improvements have taken place on the riverside. Members said it was pleasing to see the area being used by more walkers, although parking on South Road, especially near the fire station, is a concern.

Repairs to Brysons Park are expected to begin in September, members were informed.

It was also agreed that Scotts Park toilets would remain closed as the cost of cleaning them three times a day could not be met.

The council has received resignations from Angus Murray and Mark Trotter, both for personal reasons.

Mr Murray, who had been deputy chairman, has previously raised concern at criticism of the council on social media.

Parish councillors thanked both for their efforts and said it could leave the council ‘poorer’ as a result.

Applications for the vacant positions need to be emailed to [email protected] by Monday, August, 17 at 3pm. All applicants must be available to attend the parish council meeting to be held via zoom at 7pm.
