The stone shelter on Northumberland Street has been out of use since a one-way system was introduced in the village in 2016.

Alnmouth Parish Council assumed responsibility for the shelter when it stopped being a bus stop.

Coun Hilda Blythe asked the parish council if it would have any objections to the trustees of the Hindmarsh Hall installing electricity so a light motion sensor could be put in at some point.

“We would also refurbish the inside if the parish council were amenable to refelting it because then we could put a large noticeboard across the back,” she said.

“We could make good the walls and the seat so it looks tidier.

“A lot of other villages with bus stops that have outgrown their use are doing really good things.”

The proposal was agreed.
