The broken and severely bent pole, at the junction of Main Street and King Street, is due to be replaced by the end of January.

The news was revealed by local county councillor Guy Renner-Thompson at a meeting of North Sunderland Parish Council.

“It’s going to be removed and replaced,” he said.

Parish councillors have been calling for its repair or replacement for several months.
