Councillors call for resurfacing of road damaged during 'Beast from the East'

Concerns about the badly rutted surface on a section of the Belford to Budle Bay road were raised at a meeting of Belford Parish Council.

Coun Kerry Noble noted the road was particularly poor from Cragmill Cottage through to the Chester Hill junction.

It is understood part of the damage was caused by ploughs moving snow from the road in February 2018, a period of severe weather dubbed the Beast from the East.

The road is also prone to flooding.

Parish councillors agreed the matter should be reported to Northumberland County Council

Coun Julian Cunningham also raised concerns about the state of the road from Fenwick to Lowick. He felt the issue has been caused by the diversion of traffic from the A1 during recent roadworks. This will also be reported to Northumberland County Council.
