A request had been made by a local resident for the 30mph limit on the B6525 to be extended from Wooler’s industrial estate towards the ‘S’ bend at Turvelaws Farm.

However, Wooler Parish Council has been informed that the request was rejected because there are not enough houses and the road is too straight.

Parish council chairman Mark Mather said: “We had written to Northumberland County Council in support of that to see what we could do but they have said they won’t allow it.

“I personally feel it’s quite disappointing that it needs a fatality before they would do anything about it.”
