Boost for hopes of making more use of Alnwick market place
Councillors have welcomed proposed changes to road closure arrangements at Alnwick Market Place.
Northumberland County Council currently charges £100 each time there is a road closure for an event.
However, it has been in discussions with Alnwick Town Council about making a change and has now suggested a one-off fee of £400 to cover administrative costs.
“There has been a perception that it’s putting people off planning events in the market place,” said town clerk Peter Hately.
“In effect, the town council will be able to close the market place off for any event it wants. It opens the door to getting it used more.”
A recommendation to approve the proposal is expected to be put before the next full town council meeting on January 9.
