POLITICS: Concern over MP's links

On local issues, such as her support for re-opening the ward at Rothbury Community Hospital, she is to be commended.

However, it cannot be ignored that when it comes to national affairs, I believe she is not considering the interests of her constituents.

Locally, her role in the European Research Group, a faction of MPs led by Jacob Rees-Mogg and Boris Johnson, appears to be kept under close wraps.

What is her support for Rothbury hospital worth when she is deeply involved with Rees-Mogg, who is opposed to the tax rises so necessary to keep the NHS running?

The economic shockwaves of Nissan’s plant closing would hit the whole of the North East hard. Some 860,000 well-paid British jobs in the motor industry alone are at risk if we have the ‘Hard Brexit’, which the European Research Group demands.

Apart from Michael Gove, this group, and especially our Trade Secretary Liam Fox, seems to be committed to importing cheap food from anywhere they can get it, irrespective of its means of production, further undermining Northumberland farmers who will also soon lose their payments from Brussels.

Shouldn’t Mrs Trevelyan be performing her elected duty of supporting the livelihoods of her constituents, rather than promoting the agenda of Johnson and Rees-Mogg?
