Starting on Sunday, April, 23, PC James Jones will walk from Land’s End to John O’Groats. He is likely to cover more than 1,000 miles during the solo, unaided trek, and he aims to complete the gruelling hike in 10 weeks.

He will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support and Combat Stress, which supports ex-service personnel with mental-health problems.

PC Jones said: “I considered doing this walk more then 20 years ago, but I put it to the back of my mind due to other commitments. Recently I lost two friends to cancer, both reasonably young, and this caused me to rethink my own life and priorities.”
