The 21-year-old man was caught by an officer in August last year while driving in Amble Harbour without any helmet, safety equipment or insurance. He appeared at Gateshead Magistrates' Court last Tuesday and has been disqualified from driving for nine months, received points to his licence and given a fine.

Alnwick Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: "This should serve as a warning to others who have motorbikes and who think it's okay to ride them on public roads without any insurance or any safety equipment.

"They are not only putting themselves at risk but also the safety of other road users. We will use the powers we have to arrest and take these bikes off those found breaking the law."

Anyone with concerns about motorbike disorder is asked to contact police on 101.
