Police are urging cyclists to lock their bikes – or face losing them.
The warning comes on the back of a string of thefts after cycles were left insecure in gardens.
Officers will be out on patrol but are reminding people to make sure their bikes are always left safe and secure, whether inside a shed, garage, garden or out on the street.
People are also encouraged to security mark bikes with a postcode so that if they are lost or stolen, there’s more of a chance they can be reunited with their owner.
Last week, a red TRX Y-frame mountain bike was stolen from a garden in Fontburn, Amble.
It happened sometime between 8.30pm on Tuesday, June 11, and 8am on Wednesday June 12.
Anyone who is offered a similar bike for sale or saw the theft should call police.
