Police investigating an incident of criminal damage and assault in Felton are appealing for a ‘good Samaritan’ to contact them.

The incident happened in Barns Road in the village at 11pm on Sunday. A man hit a parked car with a hammer causing damage to the vehicle. The offender also pushed a woman against a fence, causing her minor injuries.

A member of the public, a man, came to the woman’s assistance. He was also assaulted by the offender and knocked to the ground. He managed to get up, however, and left the scene before police arrived a short time later.

Officers would like to speak to this man who came over to help and would like to speak to anyone else who was in the area at the relevant time and who may have witnessed either the assault or criminal damage.

A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and is currently detained in custody.

Police are carrying out house-to-house inquiries in the area, but anyone with information should call police on 101, quoting reference number 1079 of 02/10/16, or ring the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
