Police name man killed in Northumberland crash

Police have named a man who died following a crash in Northumberland yesterday morning (Monday).

Emergency services were called to a collision between a Ford Transit van and a Suzuki Jimny on the eastbound carriageway of the A69 at Haydon Bridge at around 7am.

The male driver of the Jimny had suffered serious injuries and was treated by paramedics but was sadly pronounced dead.

He has been named as Kevin Capstick, 37, from the Consett area of County Durham.

The driver of the Ford Transit was injured in the incident and taken to hospital but his injuries have been described as non-life-threatening. There were no other passengers in the vehicles.

Both carriageways were closed for around three-and-a-half hours as a result of the crash, which caused heavy congestion in the area.

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident and anyone who witnessed the collision should contact police on 101, quoting reference number 144 15/02/16.
