Police issue warning after spate of quad-bike thefts in Northumberland

Police are warning people to keep their quad bikes secure after a spate of thefts.

Three quads have been taken in less than a week from various locations.

The first happened overnight on Tuesday, May 24, when a Yamaha green quad bike was pinched from a Longhoughton farm.

Then, on Sunday, a red Honda quad, with a blue wooden box on the front, was stolen from a farm in Rennington, sometime between 10pm and 11pm. Overnight on Monday, a red Honda quad was taken from Chathill.

It has led to police issuing the following crime-prevention advice: Keep quads stored in a secure outbuilding – preferably one that is fitted with an intruder alarm;

○ Check perimeter fences are in good repair, gates are locked/secured overnight and external lighting is working;

○ Fit a tracking device to your quad, mark it so it is identifiable and keep a record of serial numbers and take a photograph of the quad, including any distinguishing features or alterations you have made.;

○ Block the machine in with other equipment so that it cannot be pushed away.
