Police issue appeal after hit and run in Northumberland

Police are appealing for witnesses following a two vehicle hit and run collision in Northumberland.

Officers were called at 10.16pm on Friday to Castle View in Prudhoe.

A silver coloured Vauxhall Golf GTI and a light blue Vauxhall Corsa were both travelling north west along Station Road, when for reasons yet to be established, both vehicles were involved in a collision on Station Road, approximately 100 metres down the bank from Castle View.

The driver of the Golf made off from the collision on foot. The driver of the Corsa the sole occupant, an 80-year-old woman, was trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency services attended the incident and the injured woman was removed from the vehicle by the fire service and taken to Royal Victoria Infirmary where she is detained. Her condition is described as serious but stable.

The road was closed overnight to enable the casualty to be dealt with and the scene examined, it was reopened at 7.16am on Saturday morning.

Officers want to speak to anyone who witnessed the collision or anyone who can give any information about the two vehicles, the Corsa and Golf cars and their movements prior to the collision.

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and is helping police with their enquiries.
