Police confirm they have found a body in search for man who went missing while walking in Northumberland

Northumbria Police launched an appeal for help after setting up a search for Neil Cowking, who had travelled to the region from Huddersfield.
Experienced walker Mr Cowking was visiting River Breamish Caravan Park near Powburn, Northumberland, on a walking holiday when he was reported missing on Sunday, September 27.

Hide AdAn investigation was launched to locate the 85-year-old with the help of local partners, with walkers also helping in the search for him.
Police had hoped others may have seen something which could help with inquiries, as the area had been busy with visitors in the days surrounding his disappearance,
However, officers sadly found the body of a man approximately 2 miles west of Ingram in the Breamish Valley yesterday, Monday, September 28.
Formal identification is yet to take place but police believe the body is that of Mr Cowking.
His family have been notified.

Hide AdSuperintendent Brad Howe, of Northumbria Police, said: “This is an extremely tragic outcome and our thoughts remain with Neil’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
“I want to thank everyone who helped us in our search and who came forward with information to assist with the investigation.”
Police do not believe there to be any third party involvement and once formal identification has been completed a report will be prepared for the coroner.
