Police called out to youths on roof during half-term

The incidents occurred on the afternoon of February 15 and 18, at Alnwick’s Lindisfarne Middle School.

Alnwick Neighbourhood Inspector Paul Truscott said: “We ran Operation Westcalder, which is a preventative operation whereby schools are patrolled regularly by officers to prevent crime and disorder.

“We had two reports of youths climbing on the roof of Lindisfarne Middle School. This was anti-social behaviour and a number of youths were taken home and spoken to in front of their parents. Other than those two calls, all was quiet.”

Last Saturday evening, officers carried out a separate operation in Alnwick, to tackle crime and disorder and tackle vulnerability.

Officers made sure they were highly visible in the town centre and foot-patrols were tasked to identify people who may be vulnerable and offer them assistance. This also incorporated a walk through of the main pubs.

Inspector Truscott said: “Protecting vulnerable people is a significant objective for the police and at the weekends, especially, officers are tasked to identify those people most at risk and to take positive steps to safeguard them.

“The operation was a success in terms of visibility and there were no reports of crime and/or vulnerability.”

○ Officers will be at two coffee mornings over the next few weeks to listen to any concerns from residents. The first will be at Rothbury United Reformed Church on Saturday from 10am, followed by Newton on the Moor Community Hall on Saturday, March 12, from 10.30am.
