Police are appealing for witnesses after an attempted burglary in Northumberland.

It happened between 1.35pm and 2.10pm on Friday, February 21, at a cottage half a mile off the A696 at Sandyford, Belsay, when a man attempted to break into the property through a window.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident, which happened during daylight hours, or who has information about who is involved, to contact police as soon as possible.

The suspect is described as white, aged around 30, and of slim build. He was wearing a blue beanie-type hat, and a blue ribbed drawstring padded jacket which was waist length. He was also wearing dark blue or black waterproof or walking trousers, and had a rucksack. At the time of the crime the offender had put on a pair of sunglasses.

The appeal comes during Northumbria Police’s Operation Soundwave, aimed at tackling thieves and burglars across the force.
