Police appeal after A1068 crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after Saturday’s two-vehicle collision on the A1068 near Alnwick.

As previously reported by the Gazette, the incident occurred at 4.06pm on Saturday just past the A1 flyover. A Vauxhall Corsa was travelling west on the Alnmouth Road when for reasons yet to be established, it collided with a Renault Scenic car which was travelling east.

The 50-year-old female driver of the Corsa was taken to hospital in Cramlington and detained overnight. The driver of the other vehicle, an 82-year-old man and his female passenger, 79, were also kept in overnight at hospital in Cramlington. None of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed between the Oaks roundabout in Alnwick and the Lesbury roundabout for three hours to allow for the scene to be investigated.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the collision is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101, ext 69191, quoting log number 781 of 05/09/15.
