Police in Amble will be relocating to a new building in the town centre, it was confirmed on Tuesday.
The neighbourhood policing team is to move to an office at the Fourways 2 building, on Dilston Terrace, in the summer.
The current police station, pictured above and located on Leslie Drive, will then be put up for sale, with the proceeds put back into policing.
The relocation follows a recent consultation period and police say it will make them more accessible and visible in the community. Fourways 2 includes a front-office facility for the public to visit and has full disabled access.
The current station opening hours of 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, will continue at the new premises.
Northumbria Police and Crime Commissioner Vera Baird said: “This decision was taken after considering comments made by residents.
“It was incredibly important that people were given the opportunity to put forward their views on the move and that I took them all on board before reaching a decision on this relocation.
“I was pleased that the majority of comments supported the move as it bases officers further into the community.”
